"Cruisin' with the Saints" Volunteers Needed

Planning is currently under way for the 2026 VBS "Cruisin' with the Saints" which will be held at St. Agnes in partnership with St. Mary's Wooster July 14th-17th.

Anyone interested in volunteering, we're looking for "Saint" actors/actresses, group leaders and helpers, snack and game leaders/helpers.

To volunteer please plan to join us Tuesday, April 21st at 7:00 p.m. at St Agnes Parish Center, and be sure to register as a volunteer .

Spring into Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible

SPRING into Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible, a colorful 8-part Bible Study overview that gives you the “big picture” of the story woven through Scripture. We will visit the key people, places and events in chronological order. This is a great place to start, whether you’re totally new to Bible study, or would like a refresher——-part of THE GREAT ADVENTURE Bible Study Program, with Jeff Cavins and Sarah Christmyer.

Come join us under our newly replaced roof in the Adult Bible Study room in the school. We’ll meet Thursday mornings from 10-11 a.m. starting on April 9th. Registration at first class. Optional materials available. See you there!

Now through Mid-May the Knights of Columbus Ohio State Council is holding their 2026 Chairty Campaign & Super Ca$h Bonanza. Over half of the price per ticket will go towards local charities in Wayne County. Lent - Easter 2026

There are many was to celebrate the Lenten Season at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Ash Wednesday

Lent begins on Wednesday of this week - Ash Wednesday.

Ashes will be blessed and distributed in the middle of Mass (after the gospel and homily) this Wednesday, February 18 Masses - 8:15 a.m. and Evening Service at 7:00 p.m. on Ash Wednesday for your convenience.

Stations of the Cross

Each Friday of Lent, the stations are prayed here at St. Agnes at 7:00 p.m. Stations last about 30 minutes. All are encouraged to attend and reflect on the suffering of Jesus.

Vespers

Evening prayer or “vespers” is being prayed at St. Agnes Church on the Mondays of Lent at 6:45 p.m. Vespers only take about ten or fifteen minutes. It consists largely of psalms recited with other scripture passages.

All are welcome, and books are available in church on Mondays for you to join in and participate.

Mondays: February 23rd, March 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th.

Fish Fry

Parishioners are invited to attend the Lenten Fish Fry from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall on Friday’s during Lent (February 20th - March 20th) Dine in or take out—$11 for adults, and $6 for children.

Fast

Catholics from the age of 18 to 59 are required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The Lenten fast means that a person would only eat one larger meal and two smaller meals. Drinking liquids between meals does not break the fast.

Abstinence

Catholics 14 and older are required to abstain from meat and meat products (soups w/meat, meat gravies, etc.) on the designated days. Days of abstinence are Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays of Lent.

A Safe Environment

"Empowering God's Children"

On March 1st PSR Staff will present a Safe Environment program during class for all students. The program “Empowering God’s Children” is an age appropriate video series, and classroom learning activities that focus on safety and boundaries. A form will be sent home with your student if you choose to NOT have your child participate in the program, the form needs returned by March 1st.

New Adult Bible Study

St. Agnes Adult Bible Study

The NEW St Agnes Adult Bible Study will begin on Thursday, January 29th and run through Thursday, March 19th.

All are welcome! Our Adult Bible Study will be starting again with a new study from Ascension: Enjoy and relax as we watch LUKE The Story of Salvation Fulfilled , which will take us on a journey that begins with the foretelling of John the Baptist’s birth and continues with key moments up to Jesus’ Ascension. This gospel continually reveals how Jesus is the fulfillment of prophecies made throughout the Old Testament, told in powerful words and beautiful details. Outline an discussion ideas included.

Join us in the school Adult Bible Study Room for LUKE The Story of Salvation Fulfilled on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. beginning January 29th for this eight-session video/discussion.

Confirmation 2026

The Sacrament of Confirmation

We are having our first Confirmation Meeting/Class for both parents & students, on Sunday, January 25th at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Agnes Parish Center. It is important that at least one parent attends with their child.

We are going to meet every other Sunday evening from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Schedules will be provided and are subject to changes throughout the year. Please see our Calendar for the class schedule.

The Confirmation ceremony will take place at St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception in Wooster in early November.

Current eight grade students will be added to the Confirmation class this year. They are encouraged to still participate in the Sunday PSR classes, however it is not required. We will be using the "CHOSEN" confirmation series. Books will be provided.

We are asking all parents to pray daily for our young men and women while journeying through this season of spiritual growth.

All Saints Day Mass

Join us for All Saints Day Mass

The Church celebrates All Saints Day each year on November 1st. On All Saints Day, the Church honors all the saints in heaven, not only the canonized saints, but also members of our families who already enjoy the happiness of heaven. This year All Saints Day is on a Saturday. Although normally a holy day of obligation, since it falls on a Saturday this year you are dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass. We will still have two Masses. There will be a Vigil Mass on Friday, October 31st at 5:15 p.m. as well as a morning Mass on Saturday, November 1st at 8:15 a.m.

Consider attending Mass on All Saints Day even though you are not obligated to this year. Attend to honor those who have gone before us, and to focus your attention on our heavenly goal.

St Agnes Conference of St Vincent de Paul Society Celebrates 45 Years

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the St. Agnes Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Founded to provide emergency assistance to members of the St. Agnes community, and to the service area of Apple Creek, Dalton, Marshallville, and Smithville .

Assistance is provided, depending on a needs-assessment, and includes help with utility bills, occasional prescription payments, and grocery assistance (primarily non-perishable items, with ground beef and sausage sometimes available.) Additionally, there is on-going outreach by visiting and sending cards and bulletins to shut-in members of the parish and also delivering flowers at Christmas and Easter.

All of this is due to the unstinting generosity of the members of St. Agnes Parish. Thousands of dollars have gone out to help thousands of people because of the overwhelming generosity of the Parish community to answer Christ’s call, found in Matthew 25 (35-36); “...for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me...I was sick and you visited me...”

Our current 15 Active and 9 Associate Members, and all those who worked throughout these 45 years, wish to say “Thank you” for your unwavering support to the mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

May God bless you as abundantly as you have those in need.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul harnesses the power of community and partnerships to feed and assist families in our community who have nowhere else to turn for help. Our volunteer members are women and men who are compelled by our Catholic Christian faith to serve those who are needy and suffering.

From utility assistance to food pantries, we share our time and treasure with those who need help and hope. We believe EVERYONE deserves a fair chance at a bright future, regardless of income or life circumstances.

If you would like to help our St. Vincent de Paul foody pantry is in need of the following items: cereal, pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned meats (tuna, chicken, etc.) stew, chili, noodles, baked beans, pancake mix, syrup, peanut butter, jelly and macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables and soup.

Items can be placed at any time in the baskets located in the main church vestibule or you can drop off Tuesdays or Thursdays 1pm-3pm.

PSR Begins Sunday, September 21st

Dear Parents,

PSR begins Sunday, September 21st. Families are invited to attend the 9 am Mass and then come to PSR. Classes will be from 10:10 until 11:10 a.m.

Extra registration forms will be at the back of the church, parish center office, or can be downloaded on the website www.stagnesorrville.com. Registrations are due by Sunday, September 21st. They can be mailed to the above address or dropped off to the office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday between 9:30 and 3 or Wednesdays between 9 and noon.

There will be a parent meeting on Sunday, September 28th at 10:20. Parents who are interested in helping with PSR activities can sign up at the meeting. Please plan to attend.

Children in Grade 2 will be preparing for their First Reconciliation and First Communion this year. Please contact Mary Stoll if your child is older than 2nd grade and has not made their First Communion. Children need to attend PSR at least the year before they receive a sacrament.

The St. Monica Ministry is a community of prayer and mutual support, offering hope to the families and friends of fallen-away Catholics.

First meeting: Saturday, Sept 6, about 9:15 AM (after the 8:30 mass).
